Telangana became the 29th state of India, separated from undivided Andhra Pradesh on 2nd June 2014. The aspirations of the people as expressed during the Telangana movement were in favor of a decentralized model of economic development and for innovative public policies to promote the standard of living, knowledge and longevity by removing inequalities and vulnerabilities. Human development is the expansion of people’s freedom to live long, healthy and creative lives. The construction of a Human Development Index that combines three dimensions of development–such as long and healthy life, knowledge and decent standard of living–reflects the approach of the UNDP.
